
Wałbrzych is a beautiful little town very close to the Sudeten Mountains. The place is full of thermal baths and was a favorite travel destination for the european aristocracy before the war. Szczwano Zdroj (4km far from Walbrzych), hometown of the poet and Nobel Prize winner Gerhart Hauptmann. One can still drink and bathe in these waters. There are plenty of other spa resorts in these beautiful green mountains. Another contemporary Nobel Prize winner and writer loves the Sudeten Mountains and lives there: Olga Tokarczuk. A fascinating place nearby is the spa-town of Sokolowsko with wonderful walks in the middle of the Mountains. Not far is also the Pearl of European baroque, Basilica of Mary in Krzeszów, with an original baroque organ from 1700. Of course also the Castle Ksiaz, one of the biggest in Europe and where the concert of the laureates is going to take place, is about 10km from Wałbrzych.
